Oummah initiatives

Why we are building Oummah

A directory, a ticketing service, and above all a conviction: the Muslim community in Belgium deserves to see itself, find itself and help one another. Here is the why behind the project.

Belgium is home to hundreds of mosques, non-profits, schools, collectives and initiatives carried by Muslims. Arabic classes on Wednesday afternoons. Collections for those most in need. Conferences, iftars, charity sales, sports clubs. A dense, generous community life — and yet almost invisible.

Invisible, because it is scattered. An announcement in a WhatsApp group here, a poster at the mosque exit there, a Facebook page updated whenever someone finds the time. Whoever moves to Antwerp, Liège or Charleroi and looks for a Quran school for their children starts from scratch. The association that organises a beautiful event fills the room only halfway, for lack of a way to spread the word.

What we are building

Oummah is two simple building blocks serving a single idea:

  • A directory of all Muslim organizations in Belgium — mosques, non-profits, schools, community businesses — browsable by city, by field, on a map. Each organization keeps its own listing, verifies it and keeps it alive.
  • A ticketing service designed for community associations: publish an event, manage registrations, fill the room — no hidden commissions, no bloated tools.

All of it in four languages — French, Dutch, English, German — because the Muslim community in Belgium speaks all the languages of the country. And with 100% European hosting, because your data is not merchandise.

What we are not building

Oummah is not yet another social network, nor a platform that lives off advertising. No ad tracking, no data resale, no algorithm engineered to capture attention. The model is transparent: a modest subscription for organizations that publish events, and that is all.

The Prophet ﷺ said: "The believers, in their mutual affection, mercy and compassion, are like one body." (Muslim)

That is the spirit of the project. Not a technological feat — a tool for mutual aid. A way for those who seek to find, and for those who organise to be found.

Where do we stand?

The platform is at an advanced stage: the directory, the interactive map, events and registrations already work internally. We are preparing the opening with care, inshaAllah.

Until then, this blog will share the behind-the-scenes of the project and publish practical guides for associations and families: creating a non-profit, organising an event, understanding an association's obligations, keeping a local initiative alive.

Want to be there on day one? Sign up below — we will write to you when the doors open. And if you run an organization, you will be among the first to join the directory.
